The Incredibly Dangerous Left

The Apostle Paul said in 1st Corinthians 13:12, "For now we see through a glass, darkly..."

That's usually the case with politicians.  Most of their responses to questions or their statements in speeches are mundane, well-scripted, non-committal sound bites which leave the listener wondering where they really stand (which, incidentally, is why I like Fred Thompson so much--he says exactly what he means, and he's so pro-American it makes me want to stand and cheer).

But every now and then, a politician says something which leaves him or her absolutely naked.  I don't mean unclothed.  Rather, I'm referring to an unguarded utterance which opens wide the door to the speaker's soul and reveals the true nature of their core beliefs.

Such moments are rare and precious with politicians on the left.  They're rare because the politicos so carefully hide their true intent from the American electorate for fear of frightening voters, and they're precious because they obviate all the other blather and display in blinding clarity the true agenda of the left.

Hillary Clinton, in an urgent effort to stave off the hard-charging B. Hussein Obama (who now has moved ahead of her in polls), is making more and more of these soul-revealing comments these days.  We can all be grateful for that.  In her desperate attempt to regain lost ground with leftist radicals and the Democrat electorate, she is destroying all her hard work to paint herself as a moderate and displaying her true socialist beliefs.  In so doing, she represents the real face of the political left.

For example, in a recent speech she stated that she, as the future President, would "take the profits of the oil companies and put them to use for researching alternative sources of energy."  That was a HUGE red flag, a remarkably revealing statement.  In the first place, the left desperately needs "Big Oil" (as this legitimate industry is so cartoonishly vilified on the left) to make profits.  Despite all their hard work and enormous investment in infrastructure, the oil industry only realizes about eight cents a gallon profit on gasoline.  By contrast, government, which produces nothing, takes sixty to eighty cents per gallon in taxes.  No profitable oil companies means no huge tax bite for government.  Second, common sense says that if a company doesn't realize a profit, it goes out of business.  Hillary's threat to confiscate oil profits starkly reveals the naivete and out-of-touchness of the socialist mindset, to whom "profit" is a dirty word.  Third, Hillary and Bill recently liquidated a heretofore hidden trust fund worth $25 million (and they came to Washington in 1992 with nothing...hmmmm).  Despite her railing against Big Oil and its abuses, it turns out that Hillary was heavily invested in several oil companies in this fund and was happily enjoying the results of their profits.

So does this gaffe reveal Hillary to be naive, stupid, or hypocritical?  Take your pick.  Whatever adjective is applicable, it clearly disqualifies her from ever serving as the leader of this nation.

But the problem is deeper than Hillary's persona.  Her statement is a clear, laser-like focus upon the character, purpose, and agenda of the left.  If Hillary or any other liberal like her ever attains the top job and is supported by a majority of like-minded liberals in Congress, she has as much as declared that they will nationalize the oil industry.  That, my patriotic American friends, is truly frightening.  Hugo Chavez did that, and Venezuela has been transformed from a former democracy to a fully socialist country as a result.

On another recent occasion, Hillary dropped a similar bomb.  In a speech to a graduation ceremony at a technical college, she described President Bush's economy as an "on your own society," where individual achievement is up to the individual.  Instead, she advocates replacing it with "shared responsibility for shared prosperity."

As our Lord Jesus said in another context (Matt. 11:15), "He that hath ears to hear, let him hear."  The concept of "shared responsibility for shared prosperity" is simply fancy language for "from each according to his ability and to each according to his need," the classic Marxist creed.  Both Ayn Rand in 'Atlas Shrugged' and the Soviet Union through 74 years of misery demonstrated with excruciating clarity why that political philosophy is a total loser from the start: it fails to account for the basic drive of human nature, which is self-advancement and self-satisfaction.  Capitalism, despite its many flaws, is the only economic system which recognizes and enables that drive; hence it always succeeds wherever government doesn't impose overly-severe obstacles in the form of taxation and regulation.  Despite the lies and mischaracterizations of the left, President Bush's tax cuts have offered solid proof of that axiom.

The Founding Fathers of this great nation realized that only a society where each individual is free to succeed or fail based upon liberty and individual effort could rid the world of kings and lazy, non-productive, resource-sapping, soul-killing, citizen-enslaving nobilty.  They wisely wrote the Constitution with that single objective in mind.  The Bill of Rights, the first ten amendments to the Constitution, is a magnificent testimony to their fear of a strong central government.  With God-inspired clarily of mind, the Founding Fathers knew that such a body is absolute anathema for success in a free, capitalist economy.

Hillary and her creed thoroughly disagree.  In snippets and clangers such as the above examples, they reveal with stunning clarity that they care nothing whatsoever about individual liberty.  On the contrary, they are convinced that they know so much more than the unenlightened that they are entitled to rule over virtually every aspect of every person's life.  As atheists, despite the protestation of some (read: Hillary, when convenient for a sound bite) that they pray and worship God, they worship Government.  Moreover, they sense that Government is where to be and how to think and act.  Their mindset and single agenda is that Government is to be made larger and larger until it becomes the Big Brother of Huxley's 'Brave New World.'  The more clever and devious among them, which includes Hillary, also recognize that those individuals who have their hands on the controls of Government in their socialist utopia will live lives of unimagined luxury and power without encumbrance from nasty irritants like the Bill of Rights.

Be afraid, America.  Be very afraid.  A government of Democrats is a government of socialists.  To elect them is to flush away the gift that God bestowed upon us and replace it with just another despotic crew of tyrants.
