What lemmings do when herding into groups of thousands and suddenly rushing into the sea to their destruction is "swarming": the mindless following of the masses without individual goals or consideration of the consequences.
That's very like what liberals, schoolchildren, and other intellectually underdeveloped human beings are doing today. In their breathless panic over their conviction that the earth is becoming warmer and thus portending tragedy, millions of otherwise sensible people are succumbing to the mantra that "something must be done about it!"
This is part one of a three-part posting concerning the nonsense of global warming. Here I will address the science; in part two, the religious overtones; and in part three the real political agenda behind this artificial crisis.
And an artificial crisis it is. What must be understood at the outset is that crisis is the default mindset of liberals. In order to gain influence and power, they must continually keep the population agitated about one emotive issue or another. That enables them to paint themselves as the solution of the crisis de jour. Take Iraq, for example. Almost every single one of the liberals in Congress once publicly proclaimed their firm conviction that Saddam Hussein must be stopped, even if it meant a U.S. invasion of that country. Almost every one of them voted to authorize the President to take such action after 9-11. Yet since the day that the invasion began, liberals and their toadies in the mainstream media have done everything they can to sow doubt, discord, distrust, and ultimately destruction of the American effort to stabilize and rebuild Iraq. But the reality on the ground is quite the opposite. Our soldiers continually relate tales of new schools, hospitals, housing, and communication facilities built by teams of Americans and Iraqis working together. The National Security Advisor of the democratic Iraqi govenment, Mowaffak Rubaie, says that Al Queda is getting its raggedy rear end solidly smacked by the Iraqi population themselves, who have had quite enough of the viciousness of Islamofascism. The war is indeed being won by the forces of freedom and democracy, but you'll never hear that from the liberals who are pathologically invested in panic, crisis, and defeat in order to further their own agenda.
The same is true of the new crisis of the day, global warming. Al Gore, an opportunist who literally defines the word hypocrite, screams and waves his arms about like a toddler who's been deprived of sweets (as the American people wisely deprived this utter fool of the presidency, his preferred candy). He made a movie which is so factually flawed that it wouldn't merit a passing grade in a freshman cinematography class--which of course meant it gained the swooning approval of the ultimate brain-dead class, Hollywood liberals.
Let's look at the real science behind geothermal change, not the Gore myths and distortions. I'm hoping my readers will memorize just a few facts from this list so they can ask their liberal acquaintances about them. It's fun to watch a liberal squirm when facts are presented (but be sure not to allow them to spin or refute the facts without evidence. You'll know you've won when they accuse you of being a Christian and thus ignoring science.)
Fact one: The United Nations admitted in a 1995 analysis that earth temperatures during the past several decades have not been as warm as the medieval period of A.D. 1000-1400. During this time, grapes were grown in England (where today the climate is too cool for this crop), the Vikings had farms in Greenland, and the Andes had no glaciers. What's remarkable about this is not that the earth has undergone periods of warming and cooling, often lasting several centuries at a time. Notable is the fact that the earth's population was miniscule in the medieval period compared to today, and there was no CO2 being released into the atmosphere as a result of industrialization. That alone would sink Al Gore back into the ranks of pathetically obscure mini-politicians if mainstream journalists were honest.
Fact two: NASA scientist Jay Zwally used satellite data to measure changes in polar ice caps from 1992 to 2002. He found that Greenland gained 11 million tons of ice per year during this period, while Antartica lost 31 billion tons per year. The resulting change in worldwide sea level was +.05 millimeters, about half the thickness of a sheet of typing paper. At that rate, it would require 1,000 years for a worldwide rise in sea level of two inches: a true non-event. Al Gore, that great global scientist, he of the raving accolades from socialists across the world, predicts a rise in sea level of 20 feet by the end of this century (but without data to support his claim).
Fact three: "An Inconvenient Truth," Al Gore's Oscar-winning global warming fantasy, depicts ghastly scenes of polar bears drowning from melted ice caps. The inconvenient fact for Gore is that eleven of thirteen regions in Canada show an increase in polar bear populations over the past fifty years.
Fact four: the global warming hysteria proponents pin wildly increased hurricane activity on rising temperatures. The fact is that not one single hurricane hit the USA in 2006. Hmmmm....were there no SUV's in operation in that year?
Fact five: North Dakota is the only U.S. state to experience a record high temperature since early in the twentieth century. In fact, 25 U.S. states experienced their record high temperatures in the decade of the 1930's, when industrialization was much less than today.
Fact six: When satellites began to circle the earth and measure earth temperatures along with other data, many nations shut down their previously-functioning rural weather stations to save money. They retained the data-collection receptors in large cities. With the collapse of the Berlin Wall, the Soviet Union shut down almost all of their remote weather stations across Siberia and retained the ones in large cities. Why is this significant? Large cities have a "heat island" effect, often registering temperatures one to three degrees higher than the surrounding countryside. Thus there may be no global warming at all, but only faulty data collection!
Fact seven: The oceans put about 39,000 tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere each year. Another 2,000 tons come from natural vegetation. Sunlight converts approximately 1,000 tons of oxygen into carbon dioxide. Compare this total of 42,000 tons to mankind's contribution of approximately 3 billion tons through industrialization and farming. That's a mere one-fourteenth of the amount produced by nature. And all of the carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is absorbed by plants and converted into oxygen. It's ludicrous to ascribe mankind's activity to increased CO2, let alone panic over it.
Fact eight, the real corker: God controls the earth's temperature through His regulation of Sol, our sun. Sunspots, or increased solar activity, have a remarkably close correlation to the earth's temperature. The aforementioned medieval period featured high sunspots; the Little Ice Age which followed (1500 to 1900) featured low sunspot activity and the English were ice-skating on the Thames River instead of growing grapes. Interestingly, some geothermal scientists are now saying that the increased sunspot activity recently recorded may be coming to an end, which would mean cooler temperatures in the next few decades. What will Al Gore and the Screaming Warmists do then?
