The Emporer Has No Clothes

The Emperor Has No Clothes

To quote from my earlier blog posting, "The Incredibly Dangerous Left,"—

"…every now and then, a politician says something which leaves him or her absolutely naked.     I don't mean unclothed.  Rather, I'm referring to an unguarded utterance which opens wide the door to the speaker's soul and reveals the true nature of his or her core beliefs.

Such moments are rare and precious with politicians on the left.  They're rare because the politicos so carefully hide their true intent from the American electorate for fear of frightening voters, and they're precious because they obviate all the other blather and display in blinding clarity the true agenda of the left."

Such a moment occurred yesterday at Columbia University when Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was invited to speak.  Having blithely announced the booking and then suffering the firestorm of outraged indignity from conservatives—and more importantly, from alumni, many of whom no doubt threatened to cut off future contributions unless he "made it right"—Columbia University President Lee Bollinger ‘introduced’ Ahmanutjob with a withering thirty-minute series of probing questions and accusations.

Tellingly, Bollinger challenged the Iranian Hitler-wannabe to explain why Iran is a state sponsor of the ruthless terrorist organization Hamas, which is responsible for thousands of horrific deaths and mutilations of Americans, Iranians, Iraqis, Lebanese, and Israelis.  He demanded to know why Iran is supplying Shiite insurgents with materials to make advanced and terribly lethal IED’s, or improvised explosive devices, which rip American soldiers limb from limb on a daily basis in Iraq.  Bollinger pointed the finger at Iran’s documented sponsorship of terror throughout the Islamic world and insisted upon a justification for such atrocities.  Oh, he was in fine form, our President Bollinger.  On this, his world stage opportunity, he put the indefensible Iranian madman clearly on the spot.

Naturally, Ahmanutjob responded with indignity.  My, my, how dare you Americans make such unpolite statements about the peace-loving people of Iran! and blah, blah, blah.  So what else is new?

What’s sooooooo interesting, however, is not the Iranian psychopath’s responses.  His rambling, almost incoherent drivel was boringly expected.  The really revealing moment was Bollinger’s accusations and statements of fact prior to the Iranian’s address.  One is led to scratch one’s head and ask "Wait a minute, Lee…didn’t I hear John Edwards say ‘The war on terror is just a bumper sticker’?  Didn’t Senator Dick ‘Turban’ Durbin compare American soldiers to Nazis in their zeal to murder innocent Islamic soldiers and civilians?  Didn’t Senator John Kerry accuse American soldiers of raiding Iraqi homes at night and killing innocent women and children?  Didn’t Senator Harry Reid say ‘There was no Al-Queda in Iraq before we invaded the country.’?  Hasn’t moveon.org labeled President Bush the world’s leading terrorist?

If all this is true, how in the world can Ahmawhackjob be a bad guy?

Here is the naked truth, dear friends: Lee Bollinger, in a moment of enforced candor, revealed that the left’s opposition to the war on Islamofascism is nothing but pure, unmitigated, disingenuous, corrupt, treasonous, hypocritical, power-seeking lies.  If he can stand there and state the clear, documented, and obvious truth, i.e. that Islamofascism is the enemy (not President Bush) and Iran is the leading character in that gang of bloodthirsty, hateful, power-hungry 13th-century savages, he is saying what conservatives have been asserting for years.  What Bollinger blurted is the basis for America’s reasoned response to Islamofascist terror.

Bollinger told the truth.  He was forced to put down the mask of deception and state the obvious.

In so doing, he dismantled the entire rationale for the left’s opposition to President Bush and the American presence in Iraq.  In a moment of compulsory honesty, he showed the left to have no clothes whatsoever.

How precious, how sweet, are these moments.  We must savor them for the gems that they are.
