As a new Christian many years ago, I read this passage from Second Timothy and shuddered. "Sounds awful!"  I mused. "Sure hope I’m not around when the last days come!"

     Lately I’ve begun to wonder whether we’re closer to those days than we ever might have imagined.

     As a basis for this possibility, I’m going to suggest that we get past the "Is there a God?" question and just stipulate that the God of the Bible is indeed alive, large, and in charge. That being the case, the accounts of God’s activity in the Old Testament are also factual. Evidence of this is the account in Genesis of the destruction of the cities of Sodom—a wickedly carnal community from which the favorite degenerate act of male homosexuals is derived—and Gomorrah. The ruins of these cities have been credibly discovered southeast of the Dead Sea. Both cities were destroyed simultaneously by an enormous conflagration. One current theory is that an earthquake caused a vein of underground bitumen to spew onto the cities and become ignited by streaks of lightning. The fact that God foretold their destruction and attributed it to their homosexual abominations cannot be a coincidence.

     Now we have the bombshell news that former Republican and now liberal governor of California, AH-nold, has signed into law two appalling bills generated by the radically liberal legislature in that state. Last year he vetoed them. This year he handed his manhood to the homosexual lobby and put pen to paper.

     These two bills are likely to take homosexual indoctrination in the public schools to an extreme level. For example, new textbooks for elementary-age children will bar the words "Mom" and "Dad" because they’ll be viewed as discriminatory. In addition, the schools may soon have to allow children to use whatever bathroom facilities they choose, depending on which gender identity they happen to feel on the day. History textbooks will be rewritten to glorify homosexuals, trumpeting their positive contributions to society and denigrating those with traditional Judeo-Christian values who have maintained the notion that homosexuality is an abomination to the same God who destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah.

     That’s California. How awful it would be to be a Christian in that once-magnificent state, especially if your job and property are not easily traded for life in a less "enlightened" state of the union.

     But that’s not all, friends. The Congress of the United States of America is debating similar bills at the present time. The Democrats in Congress are sold out to the homosexual lobby, the same way they’re chained by their private parts to the teachers’ union and the abortion profiteers. How long will it be before it becomes illegal in this nation for a pastor to stand at the pulpit on a Sunday morning and read from Leviticus 18:22—"You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination"—and be subjected to arrest, crippling fines, and even imprisonment?

     We know that all things, every detail, are sifted through the Lord’s holy fingers before they take place on this planet. Perhaps we’re seeing the growing onslaught of filth, truth turned upside down, and abomination because God is growing weary of the wickedness of this once-great nation which He initially blessed and is now arrogantly spitting in His face. If that’s the case, all we can do is pray for His mercy. After all, He does say in Exodus 34:6-7 "The Lord, the Lord, a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness…forgiving iniquity…"

     But it’s also possible that God is allowing this cancerous destruction of American society because He’s sending a wake-up call. If that’s the case, what are we doing, conservatives? Are we staying in touch with the issues of the day? Are we phoning and e-mailing our Congresspersons to express our opinion and urge them to vote our way? Are we supporting good solid conservative candidates (forget Pawlenty and Coleman; I’m talking about real Republicans) with our treasure? The homosexuals and abortionists and other liberal special interest groups are certainly in their lackey’s ears. Can we do any less if we hope to turn the tide of sewerage they’re churning out in Congress these days?
